I have a weakness for hazy, laidback polaroids, so this is no exception. I'll be crying when polaroid finally ceases production, although I already cringe when I see 20 packs of Spectra film for 35 dollars at Walgreens. Michelle Williams makes lazing around in boyswear look good on a woman for a menswear polaroid ad. Does that even make sense?

wouldn't this be nice to see on the subway?

Alberta Ferretti makes the public transportation look glamorously unrealistic for Fall 08 ads with jewel-toned swathed models lacksadaisically lounging around on the subway, invoking the envy of the general masses around them. Although, the ads are missing the random pervball in the corner eyeing potential people to grope. And generally, horror stories like this occur on public transportation.

I admit- I look forward to every new MJ ad with Posh. Overrated, yeah maybe. But whether she's submerged in a bag or stepping out of a gift box, the ads never fail to amuse me. And Posh as a saucy orange minx of an angel is so major...that is, so Posh. This probably makes up having her legs splayed out in that MJ bag, hah.

Elite superstars Karlie Kloss and Courtney Smerski front the Nina Ricci campaign. Seriously, ever since Olivier Theyskens took the reins, Nina Ricci can't do anything wrong. From the acidic backdrop to the laurel hair pieces, and the insane layers upon layers, spring 08 ads got a whole lot more interesting.

So, to get an Urban Decay comestics campaign, all one has to do is:

• become jailbait by going out with the Cobrasnake
• intern at Nylon (whatever she does there)
• shlep around L.A. at all hours of the day
• befriend an entourage of messed up starlets and Jeremy Scott
• personify the hipster aesthetic
• become insanely overexposed
• forgo washing ya hair for weeks at a time.

M.I.A for Marc by Marc Jacobs. Juergen Teller makes her look a bit too shleppy and a bit stout , but nonetheless I love M.I.A. Such is the cool precursor to the Victoria Beckham MJ ads, which I'm anticipating with mixture of gasp and blaaurgh.

Meghan Collison is everywhere nowadays. As the cliched model discoveries go, she was discovered at a local mall, signed with Supreme, and then was catapaulted to Prada ads and Meisel spreads etc. etc. She's totally the blunt-bang alternative to the Irinas inundating the runways.

Squint your eyes and she looks just like Selma Blair on the cover of Vogue Italia.

Natalie Hershlag

BEFORE she sported huge cinnabon hairpieces as Queen Amidala in Star Wars, Natalie Portman (real name:Natalie Hershlag) was a model. Here she is at 14, modeling for Isaac Mizrahi's line, before he became synonymous with everything Target. As Yoda would say in that daft accent of his, "Stunning and gorgeous she is utterly."

Also, this is proof that child models do succeed in the world and don't always end up in Promises.

An Ensemble Piece

As I was flimming through the Sept. Vanity Fair, I came upon the new Moschino ad, shot by Peter Lindbergh, featuring all Asian models, which is a rare occurance in the American fashion circuit. Usually I see ads depicting a Hye Park or Du Juan in the corner sharing facetime with a gaggle of Gemmas and Darias (ex: Cavalli, YSL, LV, Fall06) so this is new. Anyway, alls I wants to say is the messy bobs and sickly sweet babydoll-ness of the garments reminds me of the women-spies in those 70's chinese exploitation spy films my father watches. (He had a thing for asian women assassins and killing machines in cheongsam dresses. And blaxploitation Foxxy Brown films. In short, anything related to 70's exploitation films.) TMI, but it's true haha. And the morbidly fascinating Daul Kim is featured on the ladder, which I like.

Rehab is the New Black

The new Marc Jacobs Fall 07 ads, are how do you say it, a great relief. Although the clothes are microscopic in the shot, thank god MJ replaced that prepubescent vexation, Dakota Fanning. Perhaps rehab let him clear his mind from his coke binges, cause his drug relapse was evident by his choice to put that infantile little child in his spring ads. She is growing up though- she gets raped in her next movie. Oh, the vagaries of child stars...

Minimalism at its best

Suvi Koponen in the Fall Calvin Klein ads, taking over for Natalia, who is on maternity leave for her third child. Suvi's really owning up to the title of Finland's Next Top Model, which she won in 2005. Puts America's Next Top Model/trashbag to shame, cos all our winners do is walk in Baby Phat fashion shows next to transvestite Kimora Lee Simmons. Sigh...
