"yes, i think i'm sexy"

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Lara Stone for November 2008 i-D
shot by Alasdair McLellan
The article is even better than the cover.
-We learn that she wants people to stop talking about her tits, even though the interview alludes to them practically every other paragraph.
-She's been working for a decade as a model
-She fell on the runway in London, Paris, and Milan. The trifecta!
-Men hollered at her since she was 10/11
-She likes Love Actually. Models, they're just like us! (Except they're prenaturally gorgeous and gap toothed. Damn it.)

Vogue Russia features some of its country's top models, shot by Terry Tsiolis, and then shows them as kids ten years ago. Here, a retrospective of top models as kids. And Sasha Piv in a denim dress with snapped buttons. Man, the fashion of the 1990s...

what the hell...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Yes, those are Crocs on Raquel Zimmerman's supermodel feet that are featured in September's French Vogue. CROCS. Those orthopedic rubber things that are sold at grocery stores that are the rage among the pre-school set and middle aged men with a penchant to pair them with wool socks. Carine, what thou have wrought upon us?

Feline femme Kate Moss on the cover of the newly revamped September 2008 Interview, one of the very few substantial American fashion magazines. And the superhero trend lives on...kittycat style.

supermodel convent

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Natalia, Naomi, Amber, Jourdan, Oluchi, Agyness for fall Pop shot by Sebastian Faena. And judging from the various habits, rosary beads and copious amounts of Prada lace, they're styled as nuns praising the almighty Miuccia. With Jourdan Dunn as the flying nun of the bunch. I never knew Prada could be the official uniform for the convent, although I do know that the Pope wears red leather Prada shoes.

mischa goes birkin for nylon

Nylon turns to Mischa Barton as its covergirl for the August cover, athough the last I saw her was as Marissa Cooper dying off in the arms of Ryan in the OC, which was back in 2006. Since then, it seems that her occupation was gallavanting around Los Angeles in questionably hipsterish hotpants and the like. Well, fresh out a DUI and a cellulite scandal, she has finally has two movies coming out, none of which has to do with being a overprivileged Orange County teenager with self-destructive qualities. And yes, I know I am totally revealing myself as a fan of the OC, I just love Princess Sparkles, so sue me. Well she absolves herself in Nylon, presumeably styled in the vein of Jane Birkin, what with the tousled bangs and the multitude of vintage denim. That, combined with the "day after great sex" look, Mischa has put her mugshot days behind her. At least I hope so.

assless denim

Of course V Magazine and Mario Testino would put Gisele in shreds of denim for their summer cover. Is there anytime where Gisele isn't all bombshell-ish glistening with sex and what not? How classy is that last cover with the denim shorts/butt floss combo? Assless pants these days, sigh.

under the influence of wine...house

The Amy Winehouse influence on fashion has been far and wide, almost to an Agyness Deyn-like vexation. Even as she goes through a downward spiral, she's been emulated sickeningly from Chanel to French Vogue. However, I admit to being under the influence of Winehouse at times, slathering on more black eyeliner than necessary or fucking my hair up into a bouffant nest. But I really liked Korean Numero's take on the troubled singer, featuring my favorite model, Daul Kim, carrying the weight of a small child on her head in the form of a beehive do. How fun!

Also, check out Daul's blog, I Like To Fork Myself, full of amusing and enjoyably morbid tribulations on fashion, art, culture, philosophy, and pet hamsters. Seriously her take on Steve Aoki's "dj-ing" is more than enough reason for me to admire her more.

Gasp, no Chanel Iman cover!

The eagerly anticipated all-black Vogue Italia cover is out, featuring a four page foldout of Liya Kebede, Sessilee Lopez, Jourdan Dunn, and Naomi Campbell. I am totally shelling out a twenty to buy it, joblessness be damned, because its about time that diversity is highlighted in any Vogue magazine, and my lack of income will not impede me. And Tyra looks pretty unrecognizable without the weave and "smiling with your eyes" technique. It's Meisel, subtlety at his best.

hey upper east siders

Nylon gets on the Gossip Girl bandwagon finally, with Blake Lively on the cover, in the same get-up as her Teen Vogue shoot, as nymag pointed out. Odd. Inside, the articles tells of how the two are BFFS in real life, discounting any feud rumors, the fabulous fashions, etc. etc. Anywho, I wonder why Serena Van Der Woodsen gets the cover while Leighton Meester aka Blair Waldorf, is just featured on the inside. Couldn't there be double covers?* Seriously I find Blair more entertaining what with her bitchy quips and haughty elitism. Yeah, all this nagging means I am in desperate need to get my Gossip Girl fix. Yes, I am one of those girls who live vicariously through Chuck Bass sexcapades and the latest jeweled headband Blair Waldorf is wearing. And those seizure inducing "OMG" commercials hawking it's return isn't helping.
*EDIT: Whoops there are double covers, I just got the Blake Lively one in the mail. My mistake!

Nylon Bites Chloe Sevigny

HaH, Nylon gets back at Chloe Sevigny for standing them up at a party celebrating her and her new clothing line, by leaving the head on her cake on a platter. Passive aggressive, ya?

agyness overload

Sick of Agyness? Too bad. i-D is so infatuated with the Agz that the magazine is devoting an entire May 08 issue to her, aptly called "The Agyness Deyn Issue." And when I mean an entire issue, I mean that practically every article and editorial features her, teeming with all the praise and glory that i-D could slather on. I know she is popular what with her androgyny and her past employment as a fish and chips gal, but come on, an icon? Oh girlfriend, please. The word "icon" is thrown around so incessantly that the word is rendered meaningless by now.

a mcneil convert. again

Call me a flip flopper: Catherine McNeil can model. Goodness, I am the prime example of a McNeil hypocrite- first I laud her potential, then I pick at her damn eating habits, and her myspacey pictures. Now I say she grew from having one face to a plethora of expressions and contortions, as seen in this Numéro 92 April 2008 editorial shot by Greg Kadel. Perhaps its the bouffant hair, or McNeil's interpretation of the screaming Marc Jacobs mask (below), but I feel that girl gots variation in the face. If this doesn't convert all the McNeil critics, I don't know what will. I mean she grew out of that blah pretty face, when Mario Testino had that thing for her. What a difference a few seasons can make.

dragon eyes

"La fille du Dragon," ("the girl of the dragon," in english) from Numéro 90 February 2008 shot by Sofia Sanchez & Mauro Mongiello avec model Marina Perez. The makeup is intense; winged yellow highlighter eyeliner, ooers. Finally, a Spring editorial minus all the prints vomited upon it. (see previous post.)
